- With “weird” being defined as a subjective term that is often used to describe something that is strange, unusual, or out of the ordinary, would you consider Jesus weird? Why or why not?
- Read John 9:1-41.
Make some observations about this passage (What does the text say?):
- What do you notice and what are you curious about?
Make some interpretations (What does the passage mean?)
- What do you learn about God?
- What do you learn about humanity?
- Where do you see a reversal of roles happening in this story and what does that say about what Jesus came to do?
Now make some applications (what’s my response?)
- How are you encouraged, challenged, or convicted by this passage?
- What should be our response to this passage?
- Read Psalm 146:8, Isaiah 35:5; 42:7, Isa. 6:10; 42:19 in light of John 9:39. How do you see Jesus fulfilling both prophesies in the story in John 9, giving sight to the blind and blinding those who see? Which camp do you fall into? Have you allowed Jesus to open your eyes to who He is, turned from your sin to follow Him?
- If so, how are you continuing to allow Jesus to open your eyes that you might see the works of God around you?
- If not, what is standing in your way of truly seeing Jesus and trusting Him now?
