Jesus’ Power Over Natural Law

October 20, 2024
  1. What is the worst storm you have ever experienced? How did you handle it?
  1. Read John 6:16-21

Make some observations about this passage (What does the text say?):

  • What do you notice and what are you curious about?

Make some interpretations (What does the passage mean?)

  • What do you learn about God?
  • What do you learn about humanity?

Now make some applications (what’s my response?)

  • How are you encouraged, challenged, or convicted by this passage?
  • What should be our response to this passage?
  1. What metaphorical storms have you experienced in your life where you kept your eyes on Jesus? What was the outcome? What about a storm where you tried to weather it on your own? How did that go for you?
  1. Read Matt. 14:28-31. As long as Peter focused on Jesus, he was able to walk step after step on the water, but when he turned around to consider his earthly situation, he began to sink.
    1. In what ways is Jesus inviting you to step out in faith to follow Him?
    2. What earthly situations are you tempted or are you allowing to draw you under?
    3. How can your community help bolster your faith and point you toward Jesus in this time?

For Families

PRESCHOOL – Exodus 14 – This week, we learned that God god helps us when we are afraid

THE BIBLE:  “But I know that God helps me. The Lord is the one who keeps me going.” Psalm 54:4 (NIrV)

THE MESSAGE: In today’s true Bible story, God used his power to part the Red Sea to help Moses

THE BIG IDEA: GOD WILL ALWAYS HELP ME.

HIS WEEK FOR ELEMENTARY -Exodus 11-13

THE BIBLE:  “I am the Lord your God. I take hold of your right hand. I say to you, ‘Do not be afraid. I will help you.’”  Isaiah 41:13 (NIrV)

THE MESSAGE: In today’s story, we heard about the first-ever Passover. After the first Passover, God wanted the Israelites to hold a special Passover meal each year to remember how God rescued them from slavery in Egypt.

THE BIG IDEA: God is our protector, so I don’t need to be afraid

ASK THIS

Because sometimes you and your kid need a conversation-starter that isn’t,

“So . . . how was church?”

  • In today’s story, the Passover lamb had to be perfect. How is that similar to Jesus?
  • What do you think this story teaches us about God?
