- When was the last time you tried something on your own and it ended poorly?
- What stood out to you from the message?
- Why do you think we often feel the need to prove that we can do and accomplish things on our own?
- Read Hebrews 10:19-25. Background: Hebrews was written to a community of Jewish believers who are being persecuted for their faith and beginning to question if it’s worth it to keep following Jesus. They are tempted to turn their back on Him and return to their former Jewish practices. In light of this: For whom in your life are you doing the same?
- Make some observations about this passage (What does the text say?):
- What do you notice and what are you curious about?
- Make some interpretations (What does the passage mean?)
- What argument is the author making and how does he support it?
- Now make some applications (what’s my response?)
- How are you encouraged, challenged, or convicted by this passage?
- What needs to change in your life in order to live this out?
- Make some observations about this passage (What does the text say?):
- Read Romans 12:3-8.
- Do you know how you have been gifted? Are you using those gifts?
- Who in your life is stirring you up to walk in good works and keep pressing on in your faith?
- For whom in your life are you doing the same?
Key Scriptures:
Hebrews 10:19-25
Romans 12:3-8
Prayer:
How are you planning to engage your neighbors next week when the “church has left the building”? Spend time praying with one another for your neighbors. How do you want to see God work over the weekend? Ask Him to do that!
Families:
Hey, families! Here’s a look at what we’re covering with your kids so you can
help them continue to grow at home during the week.
THIS WEEK – kids learn about how people built the Tower of Babel, and how God responded to it.
THE BIBLE – The Tower of Babel:
Genesis 11:1-9; Matthew 10:32-33
THE BIG IDEA – God can create and rebuild things
- ASK THIS
Because sometimes you and your kid need a conversation-starter that isn’t, “So . . . how was church?” - Why do you think it’s important to honor God?
- What is one way you can honor God with the things you make, say, or do this week?
REMEMBER THIS
This month, your kids are memorizing the Bible verse Hebrews 3:4 (NIV), in case you want to work on them together.
Preschool: “God is the builder of everything.” Hebrews 3:4b
Elem: “For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.” Hebrews 3:4 (NIV)
NEXT WEEK – We’re starting a new series! Check your email for next month’s monthly view of what’s coming up.
